The administrators and departmental directors of the Turks and Caicos Islands Mission of Seventh-day Adventists converged on the island of Grand Turk for convention 2018 on January 26-27 under the theme ‘Lord Transform me for Your Kingdom.’ This is a part of the yearly strategy of the Mission to take the message of hope and transformation to the churches within its territory. Convention on the sister islands is a time when the administration and departmental leaders get to inform the members of the plans of the organization and enlist their support in executing those plans.

The highlight of convention 2018 was a baptism that took place after the worship service on Sabbath. A young man who had been contemplating baptism for a long while decided to totally surrender his life to Jesus. This is a testament of the moving of the Holy Spirit during the service. It is always a positive thing when young people—especially young men —surrender to the Lord.

The two-day convention began with a Friday evening service that was held at the Ebenezer Church. Elder Marjorie Bassett, Sabbath School and Women’s Ministries Director of the Mission, presented a powerful sermon on the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. The Sabbath morning service was held at the Antioch Church and Pastor Thomas Rose delivered a life-transforming sermon. He told the congregation that God is able to transform them in spite of their downfalls.

In the afternoon the Mission administrators, Pastor Michael A. Smith, Pastor Steve Cornwall and Ms. Simone Gilkes; President, Executive Secretary and Chief Financial Officer respectively, presented on the work of the mission in 2017 and projections for 2018. The Departmental Directors of the Mission also presented their plans for 2018.

Convention in Grand Turk was truly a weekend of spiritual renewal and the members look forward to a year in which the Lord will work through them to reach others while they are being transformed for His kingdom.
