“All the way, I’m going all the way with the Lord.” It’s a popular worship song that makes a promise to God; A promise that we’ll give all of ourselves and go all the way with Him, instead of the half-hearted service that sometimes plagues our Christian journey. I’ve made this promise to God several times. Unfortunately I often fail in keeping it.

Through that dilemma, I’ve learned a lot about myself and about God. One, I can’t keep the promises I make to God. Two, God knows this about me.

So I stopped making promises to God a while back. Instead I’m learning to depend on Him. And even that, I need His help with.

The reality is that we really can’t do anything on our own, no matter how good and righteous we think we are. It’s like Paul said in Romans 7:15, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” You would say that Paul was a pretty righteous guy right? But even he went through what we experience sometimes. We want to do good things but sometimes it just doesn’t happen that way. While this is no excuse to do wrong, it is a fact of life that we cannot ignore, because we are sinful beings.

Fortunately, Paul also said “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13

For the past two weeks of the Power in the Blood crusade, Pastor Sherwin White has had us affirm this confidence in Christ and I’m so grateful for the reminder. Yes as Christians, God requires a lot of us, but He knows we can’t do it on our own. Thankfully, out of His love for us He has promised to help us but we first have to trust Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will direct your paths” Proverbs 3:5-6

Let us pray for one another, that we would trust in Jesus and experience the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
