Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

One weekend, I took a trip into the town.  It was a very humid day and the town was packed with market vendors, and busy shoppers trying to make their way through the town as quickly as possible to purchase their needed items. Between the piercing sun and the jostling crowd, I did not know which one was more awful. In addition there was the busy traffic. The crowd was large and the traffic was even larger, trying to get from one side of the road to the other was like trying to go through a maze with something chasing after you. So there I stood, on the side walk, attempting so often to cross to the other side but without luck. The traffic seemed impossible to pass through and I felt as if I would be stuck in the town all day. Once again I attempted to cross over to the other side but without luck. Discouraged, I shrugged my shoulders and sighed. Then, there, out of nowhere, came a tall, muscular built gentleman from behind. As if he had seen me struggling to get across, he said, “Come, follow me.” He then led me through the busy traffic, I thanked him and then he went his way. I was very grateful for this man’s help, for it seemed as if without him I wouldn’t have crossed over so soon.  O how life is often times filled with the bustling traffic that makes it appear impossible for us to get from one side to the other.

The scripture passage reminds us in Deuteronomy 31: 6 to be strong and courageous because the Lord our God is mighty, He is with us, and He will NEVER leave us nor forsake us. Life is filled with difficulties that sometimes are overbearing to deal with. They may be likened to the bustling traffic. We try to go through them, but we are terrified that they will knock us down and leave us helpless. These difficulties weigh us down and we feel as if there is no way to possibly get through them. However, that is when we realize the inability of our strength to accomplish anything and rely on God, our Father and Friend to carry us safely through the difficult times to the other side. God is willing to be our tall, muscular mighty man and walk us through the valleys of the shadow of death with ease. Won’t you rely on him today? Let him be the one to lead and guide you in every aspect of your life. You can depend on him because he promises to take you safely through and he always keeps his promise.
